Preliminary Task

EVALUATION

For the image of the front cover of my magazine I decided to try and replicate a typical school setting, using a 16 year old girl as my model who represents the target audience, wearing glasses to give the portrayal of intelligence and writing into an open book showing a positive attitude to learning. These ideas come together to be an archetype of an ideal school pupil, giving the magazine a positive image. I took the image in a classroom, with another student visible in the background, which purposely sets the scene of a school environment.I think the quality of the image on the front cover is good enough, but for my main task I will ensure the image quality is as good as possible. I also think the angle of the image is not very interesting - a shot of the model using direct mode of address would form a personal relationship with the reader, and I think would make the magazine more enticing. I will use this in my main task. I also think that using a black and white image means the text needs to be more colourful to make the magazine stand out, so I will make my cover more interesting in my main task if I choose to use a black and white image so that it is attractive to the reader.
The contents page looks quite boring to me, as I have only used a small range of colours that don't contrast very well. The image is also quite small and doesn't really attract the reader's eye. For my main task, I will make sure to create a more interesting layout, with font text and colours that are more eye catching and larger images. There are parts of the page that look slightly bare, so I will make sure to avoid this in my main task.
